About the Artist
Carl Swanson
Carl Swanson was born January 25, 1947, the same day Al Capone died, in Williamsport, Indiana. At the age of five-and-a-half, he moved to Raton, New Mexico along with his uncle Delmar Wiggins and mother. Carl graduated in 1965 from Raton High School. He worked a half-century as a heavy equipment operator for various businesses in Raton, and finally retired from Pioneer Natural Resources after 10 years in 2013. After his retirement, he began a full time devotion to art, and selling it.
At young age, he had a concept of art and perspective most at his age didn't, and began whittling wood and painting in the first grade. In the sixth grade, Carl credits his teacher Ms. Vada Martinez for recognizing his potential and telling him he can go somewhere with his talent. Carl has won several first place and best of show awards in many local shows. After his wife passed, he opened his gallery on Historic First Street.
His hobbies include drinking wine and "knowing stuff." Carl says he has a weird sense of humor, but his dogs love him, so that is what matters.
